2013 National Safety Month

January 7, 2013

June is National Safety Month and every year the National Safety Council (NSC) encourages companies to get involved with events and help employees recognize how important companywide safety is. “Safety Starts with Me” is the theme chosen this year by the NSC.  Inspired by the pillar “Leadership and Employee Engagement”, one of the four pillars from the NSC’s Journey to Safety Excellence, this theme is aimed at getting employees to take personal responsibility for not only their own safety, but the safety of those around them.   The other pillars from the Journey to Safety Excellence are: Safety Management Systems, Risk Reduction and Performance Measurement.  More information on these pillars can be found on the NSC’s website.

The NSC provides free downloadable materials for companies that want to promote National Safety Month thorough their organization.  They also have social media messages and promotional items available.  Each week in June will highlight a different safety topic.  The topics cover critical safety issues:

Week 1: Preventing Slips, Trips and Falls
Week 2: Employee Wellness
Week 3: Emergency Preparedness
Week 4: Ergonomics

Bonus Topics:

  • Summer Safety
  • Driving Safety

SlipNOT® Metal Safety Flooring provides metal safety flooring that helps prevent slip and fall accidents in every type of work place.  Keeping workers on their feet while providing a healthy workplace safety culture are ideals that should be important to all companies.
