ADA Gratings
Grating comes in a wide variety of styles with different spacing options for the cross bars and bearing bars. Each style is appropriate for specific types of environments. After former President George Bush passed the Americans with Disabilities Act in 1990, businesses had to look at their facilities and safety measures in a new light. The new rules included specifications for grating spacing that made them safe for wheelchairs and walking aids. The ADA specified the amount of space between cross bars (span) to be ½” or less for accessibility grating in buildings and facilities. ADA gratings that meet this criterion can be purchased at any major grating manufacturer and inst alled for instant ADA compatibility.
ADA gratings may meet the spacing requirements set by the ADA, but does that make them safe? SlipNOT® Metal Safety Flooring can coat ADA gratings with a coating that exceeds the recommendations for coefficient of friction (COF) for slip resistant flooring also set by the ADA. The ADA recommends a COF of 0.5 for walking surfaces, 0.6 for access routes and 0.8 for ramps. SlipNOT® ADA gratings exceed these recommendations with a COF of at least 0.85.
SlipNOT® non-slip ADA gratings can be purchased directly from SlipNOT® Metal Safety Flooring or from Ohio Gratings. If ordering from Ohio Gratings, a SlipNOT® surface must be specified. ADA gratings are available in steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. Steel ADA gratings can be galvanized to prevent corrosion.
ADA gratings are an important safety step for any business. SlipNOT® makes it easy to obtain non- slip ADA gratings for any industry.
