In an article by Tom Raley on www.ehow.com titled “OSHA Safety regulations for Stairs and Handrails”, guidelines on the Occupational Safety & Health Administration regulations on safety stairs, stair railings and handrails are reviewed. As noted by Anapol Schwartz, Attorneys at Law, in their section entitled “Serious Injuries Can Result from Falls,” “Hospital floors are often slippery because of spills or cleaning solutions and they are often cluttered with medical equipment.” Though you would assume that patients and staff should feel safe in a hospital environment, hazardous risks still play a key role in accidents and can result in slips and falls. Schwartz continues to say that “it is estimated that 10% of the falls result in injury occur while they (patients) are in a healthcare institution such as a hospital.”

Perforated plate comes in many readily available patterns, shapes and sizes. Most commonly, 1/4” diameter holes on 3/8” staggered centers is the pattern of choice. Many applications that require perforated plate need the solid walking surface of plate combined with the flow through advantage of perforated plate. Perforated plate easily allows the passage of light, air and moisture, as well as the ability for slippery elements to drain easily.

The United States Military requires an extremely durable, high traction surface for facilities and field applications. Militants must move with precision because every second counts in an emergency. They must be able to reposition, transport and travel up and down stairs and other structures with little resistance. SlipNOT® Metal Safety Flooring supplies slip resistant electrical vault covers to cities nationwide. Electrical vault cover is an above ground cover that lends access to an underground utility vault. For many cities, running electrical cables underground is the preferred alternative to running electrical power cables above ground and across utility poles. While electrical vault covers may sit flush with the sidewalk, if it is made of a plain metal, it can become very slippery. In my opinion, in order to keep the public safe when walking on the covers, SlipNOT®’s advanced technology slip resistant coating should be used.

Metal Walkway
Choosing the right substrate for a metal walkway can make the difference between safe and durable metal walkway and a dangerous and deteriorating metal walkway. A SlipNOT® water meter cover can incorporate safety to the sidewalks of any city. Anyone that has walked on top of a water meter cover knows that they can be slippery, especially when wet. On the West Coast electrical and water components are run underground, leaving an exposed metal access panel, water meter cover or vault cover above ground. This access panel or vault cover is generally composed of solid plate or grating and can be extremely slippery when worn or wet. In order to keep pedestrians safe, a slip resistant surface should be mandatorily applied to the covers of all vaults, water meters and electrical covers. Some cities, such as the City of Los Angeles, have been taking this proactive approach to public safety for years. They are setting a high safety standard for neighboring cities.
