A new study from Wisconsin suggests that milk manufactured in large dairy farms is cleaner than milk manufactured in small farms. While buying from local smaller companies is becoming more and more popular, this may be a surprising find. No matter the size of the dairy farm sanitary flooring, safe work platforms, healthy cows, proper refrigeration and clean equipment are absolute essentials.

Grain handling facilities consist of grain elevators, feed mills, dust palletizing plants, dry corn mills, soybean flaking operations, flour and rice mills and dry grinding operations of soycake. These operations have lead to many health and safety hazards. The Wild Animal Sanctuary in Keenesburg, Colorado rescued 25 lions from traveling circuses in Bolivia in late 2010. Many industrial facilities around the United States are required to follow numerous federal government standards, such as food and beverage plants. Due to the fact that food processing plants are exposed to all sorts of food byproducts, including fats, oils, blood, sugar solutions and natural food acids, the corrosive nature may damage the flooring if the proper coating is not applied. If the proper coating is not applied, uncontrolled growth of bacteria may form, ultimately degrading the foods purity. The chosen coating must be thick and durable enough to prevent contaminants from corroding the surface.

Slip resistance is critical in many applications; even more so in hurricane prone areas. In Clay County, Florida, their emergency operations center was designed to withstand a category 5 hurricane. The architect who designed the building incorporated metal grates in various areas to protect the building and workers when it’s needed most. A metal grate folds over the front of the building to protect the windows from flying debris. Another grate is incorporated into an outside stairway that leads to communication equipment and weather devices.
