Is Your Job Safe?

“Job Safety Analysis” by Bill Herring discusses the benefits of job safety analysis in the workplace.  According to the author, a job safety analysis is a procedure that can help ensure a safe working environment for employees.  A job safety analysis helps employers and employees analyze job tasks to identify unsafe procedures and hazards an employee may face.  By performing a job safety analysis, employers can identify hazards and help find solutions to provide a safer working environment.

To implement a job safety analysis, Herring offers insight on four main steps for performing an effective job safety analysis.  First, he suggests that employers select a position or job task to be reviewed.  Second, the author suggests taking the position and breaking down the tasks performed into steps.  Thirdly, Herring suggests looking at the job tasks and asking what potentially could endanger the employee performing the task.  Finally, it is suggested that if dangers are identified, to look at possible solutions that will eliminate the potential dangers the employee may face.

Job safety analysis is a beneficial method to providing the safest workplace possible.   By utilizing Bill Herring’s method, employers gain insight on potential hazards to employees and have the opportunity to correct them to prevent incidents in the workplace.
