Non-slip Tread Stairs Improve Safety for Truck Drivers
A blog posted by Driving Ambition, a professional CDL driver staffer, talks about keeping CDL drivers safe while entering and exiting the trucks. Slip and falls are the most prevalent cause of truck driver injuries. It lists does and don’ts for drivers on behavioral standpoints, physical standpoints, and environmental stand points. Non-slip tread stairs play an important part of keeping drivers safe.
The lists include things like:
- Keeping equipment in good condition
- Incorporating non-slip surfaces on tread stairs and ladders (either retrofit or new construction). Newer trucks are using non-slip products that drain mud and liquids.
- Clean the deck plate/catwalk area after use. This would also be a good spot for slip resistant tread.
- Clean the stair treads, handholds, and truck platforms before entering the cab, especially in adverse weather conditions.
- Avoid jumping from the cab
- Use a three point contact climbing method while stepping up ladders and step treads
- Keeping hands free
While driver behaviors such as not jumping, and environmental factors such as rain and snow play a large part of truck driver safety, the safety products installed on the truck are also very important as shown by this list of do’s and don’ts. SlipNOT® products would be a good addition to any commercial vehicle. Slip resistant plate and expanded metal can be formed into tread stairs and retrofit over existing slippery steps. Non-slip grating and perforated plate can be installed to drain slippery liquids and debris from the stepping area. SlipNOT® can also provide high traction handrails, platforms and ladder rungs for driver safety and safe accessibility for loading and unloading the truck. Keep drivers safe, educate them, warn them and install safe products on their trucks.
