What comes to mind when I mention the word “metal?” Generally when people think of metal it is not immediately associated with flooring. Metal is commonly used for making different products such as machines, tools or car parts. Metal adds stability to buildings and structures, and has infinite uses throughout our daily lives. I would dare to guess that the general public does not really realize how important metal is when it comes to flooring.

There are endless uses for metal floors, and a plethora of products that can be utilized throughout different industries. One of the most useful types of metal floors are non-slip metal floors. Below I have listed a few of the most common industries that utilize slip resistant metal floors.

Wastewater and water treatment facilities use aluminum grating and plank almost exclusively. By using anti-slip flooring products these treatment facilities insure that the metal floors employees are walking on are safe.

Offshore oil rigs use steel grating metal floors throughout their facilities. Due to the slippery environment caused by oil and water; these metal floors make walking and working in these conditions a lot safer.

Steel Mills use a lot of metal floors. These mills have many trenches that are covered with metal plate. The trenches house extremely large machinery engines that need to be able to be accessed at any given time. Steel mill trenches generally run alongside conveyors and can be come covered with oil and hydraulic fluids creating a very slippery situation. Slip resistant metal floors are especially useful in these areas.

Food processing facilities utilize non-slip metal floors in various areas of production. Crossovers, catwalks, stair treads, and ladder rungs become extremely slippery with food bi-product and cleaning solutions. Anti-slip metal floors help keep food production workers safe.

The automotive industry uses metal floors throughout their plants as trench covers and stamping plants do the same.

Many bridges and roads utilize metal floors. Road plates and pedestrian crossovers can be made of slip resistant metal floors keeping travelers safe.

Theaters and warehouses have catwalks and mezzanines throughout their facilities. By using non slip metal floors, they are ensuring that people walking at those heights are not going to slip and fall.

There are many other industries that depend on metal floors to run day to day business. They may not cover their floors in metal, but they have found the importance of utilizing metal flooring products in certain situations. The next time you’re in a workplace take a look down, you may be standing on a metal floor.
