The Situation:

Caterpillar is a world leader in the manufacturing industry. For decades, Caterpillar has manufactured machines and power systems and now provides consumers with over 700 products such as fuel systems, drivetrain and hydraulics.  Caterpillar works extensively with an engineering and contracting company who provides maintenance support to many Caterpillar facilities.

The Caterpillar facility located in Aurora, IL mainly manufactures wheel loaders and hydraulic excavators used in construction and was seeking a solution to slippery floors within their facility.  The facility enlisted thier contracting company to seek a solution for the dangerous areas.  The facility originally had bare metal perforated planking and steel grating installed on the floor  surrounding a machine pit which created a slip hazard when covered in oil and fluid from machines.  Caterpillar was looking for a replacement for the slippery bare metal that would be slip resistant and extremely durable in an industrial manufacturing environment.

The Solution:

The contractor contacted SlipNOT® Metal Safety Flooring for a solution to Caterpillar’s slippery floors. SlipNOT® Metal Safety Flooring provided steel plate for the slippery area surrounding the machine pit.  Steel was the optimal solution for the application because steel substrate is an extremely durable material that is able to withstand an environment that may include extreme heat, oil and heavy use while still providing slip resistance.  The steel plates were installed and are able to remain slip resistant despite oil and fluids from the machine pit.  SlipNOT® steel Grip Plate® also requires minimal maintenance while providing years of slip resistance which was extremely beneficial for the application because the area receives continuous heavy use.

The Impact:

SlipNOT® provided slip resistant steel plate that exceeded the expectations of Caterpillar.  By selecting a slip resistant flooring that is long lasting and durable against the manufacturing environment, Caterpillar is ensuring the protection of its workers for years to come.
