The Situation:
Empire City Subway needed to be in compliance with the ''pothole law'', which makes New York City liable in slip and fall cases only if it had prior notice of the specific defect in the sidewalk. In order to reduce the number of litigation excesses, New York City Department of Transportation now requires that all the road plates for the City of New York be slip resistant.
The Solution:
Empire City Subway contacted SlipNOT® Metal Safety Flooring to address the newly mandated requirements for slip resistance on city road plates. Through many conversations, Empire City Subway and SlipNOT® Metal Safety Flooring determined that the Grade 3 (coarse) abrasive slip free coating be applied to the steel road plates. SlipNOT® also worked with the custom design specifications by providing the 1-1/4” x 6’ x 10’ plates to them with their logo and plate numbers etched into the non-slip surface.
Several other companies such as ConEdison, City of Palo Alto, CA, City of Johnson City, TN, among others have utilized SlipNOT® Metal Safety Flooring to ensure safety and durability for road plates.
The Impact:
The slip resistant road plates purchased will not only meet and exceed all requirements for slip resistance by New York City DOT but will guarantee a safe walking and traveling surface for years to come.
