The Situation:

Upgrades to the First Quality Tissue Plant in Lock Haven, PA called for slip resistant stair treads and they were looking for a metal fabricator who could supply them with their needs for custom stairwells.  The stairs treads needed to be able to withstand slippery elements including rain and snow, brought in by employee foot traffic. First Quality Tissue hired a well known fabricator to complete the project for the paper plant.

The Solution:

The fabricator contacted SlipNOT® Metal Safety Flooring to fabricate the custom stair treads that needed to be attached to the metal framing and stringers on the stairways.  A SlipNOT® sales representative suggested using non slip galvanized steel stair treads to ensure a corrosion resistant walking surface.  Galvanized steel is an ideal choice for environments where there is heavy worker or pedestrian traffic.

The fabricator suppling SlipNOT® with detailed drawings showing the guidelines required for each individual stair tread. The stair treads were required to be 1/4” hot dipped galvanized steel formed with 2” nosings and 2” risers.  Half of the stair treads were required to be supplied with countersunk holes for easy installation onto the existing stairway and the remaining half required 2” x 2” x 1/4” carrier angles to be attached to the stringers.

Once the stair treads were cut to the sizes indicated and had undergone the galvanizing process, SlipNOT® shipped them to the fabricator to be installed at First Quality Tissue.

The Impact:

The hot dipped galvanized stair treads were shipped to the fabricator in the allotted time frame.  The demanding time frame set by First Quality Tissue required an attentive work plan by both Ira G. Steffy & Sons, Inc. and SlipNOT®.  Due to the extreme attention to detail on all ends, the SlipNOT® products fit with ease and perfection.  The slip resistant stair treads instantly provided slip resistance the moment they were installed.  First Quality Tissue is very pleased with the results and are at ease knowing that their employees have a safe walking surface to utilize during their daily tasks.
