The Situation:
Transocean Ltd. is one of the world’s largest offshore drilling contractors. Transocean contracts equipment, floating mobile drill rigs and personnel to oil and gas companies across the world. Transocean prides itself in providing customers with the highest level quality of service by following the company’s core values of FIRST: financial discipline, integrity, respect, safety and technological leadership. Transocean currently has 139 offshore drilling units, 65 jackup rig driller units, 71 “floating” rig drillers and 40 deepwater drillers in its fleet. Recently on a Trident XIV standard jackup ship used by Transocean near the country of Angola, stairs were becoming wet from ocean water, oil and grease. To help provide safety on the ship, a slip resistant material was needed that would be rust resistant and require minimal maintenance due to the ship environment.
The Solution:
SlipNOT® provided 1/4” x 8”x 31” galvanized steel stair treads with nosing for the ship steps. Steel provides the ship with an extremely durable and long lasting product that will provide slip resistance against ocean water, oil and grease. Steel also requires minimal maintenance which was ideal for the ship application where ocean water and salt can often come in contact with the ship’s surface. Another important feature of galvanized steel is that it will not rust when in contact with water. This was ideal for installation on the ship where ocean water can often be a factor.
The Impact:
SlipNOT® slip resistant galvanized steel stair treads have helped Transocean continue to follow their company’s core values by providing safety to employees. The galvanized steel stair treads are rust resistant, durable and long lasting to help increase safety in the wet and oily environment. SlipNOT® stair treads have helped Transocean to continue to follow the company’s key core values of financial discipline, integrity, respect and safety and technology.
