The Situation:

With one of the most strategically diversified portfolios of products in the aerospace industry, Goodrich Corporation serves as a leader in its profession. Operating for over 140 years, Goodrich Corporation supplies vital parts to aircraft and engine manufacturers, airlines and defense forces around the world.  In several of the Goodrich Aerostructures facilities, utilities and piping are stored underground, therefore, trenches for access run through the middle of the plants.  The Plant Engineer of Goodrich Aerostructures in Foley, AL contacted SlipNOT® for samples to evaluate for use on the trenches.  The material needed to be slip resistant, durable and stout enough to withstand forklift traffic.  Worker safety was also a top priority to Goodrich, so the material had to be aggressive in order to prevent slips and falls from coolants and other slippery substances.

The Solution:

SlipNOT® decided Grade 3 steel plate would be the preeminent option for this application because it is the most durable and abrasive surface SlipNOT® offers.  SlipNOT® provided various sized trench covers in Grade 3 steel.  SlipNOT® also provided the plates with through holes so that the plates could be lifted and removed if necessary.  The thickness of the steel floor plates allow for worker and fork lift traffic, as well as the option to lift or remove.

The Impact:

SlipNOT® steel trench plates performed well above expectation at the Foley, AL location and the Plant Engineer made steel Grade 3 the standard for all Goodrich Aerostructures facilities.  SlipNOT® was committed to providing a safety solution for the underground trenches that met the demands of this project, including a material that is strong and durable but can also be lifted and removed.  SlipNOT® helped to ensure safety for workers by providing the coarsest surface available.  The SlipNOT® plates have proven to contribute to a safe facility, and will continue to provide a slip resistant surface for years to come.
