The Situation:

In efforts to help prevent any future terrorist attacks at airports, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey approved a $10 million dollar renovation to install protective bollards in front of the Marine Air Terminal at LaGuardia Airport.

The Solution:

Bollards are concrete filled steel pipes set into the ground to stop or disable any vehicle that could be possibly transporting explosives into the terminal buildings. An outside fabricator was responsible for supplying and installing the bollards in front of the Marine Air Terminal. The specifications for the renovations set by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey included installing SlipNOT® slip resistant 316 stainless steel plate around the bollards. The non slip 316 stainless steel plate was needed to provide traction for both vehicles and employees.  The outside supplier provided SlipNOT® Metal Safety Flooring with two hundred and fifty (250) pieces of 3/8” 316 stainless steel plate to apply the unsurpassed Grade 2 (Medium) slip resistant coating. The 316 stainless steel plate will not oxidize or turn black; it is also known as marine grade stainless steel due to its increased resistance to chloride. These qualities of the slip resistant SlipNOT® 316 stainless steel plate were the ideal answer for the bollard project in front of the Marine Air Terminal at LaGuardia Airport.

The Impact:

Not only did SlipNOT® 316 stainless steel plate provide repetitive traction for the employees and vehicles in the form of slip resistance, but also are contributing to the safety of passengers by aiding in the efforts to prevent terrorism.
