The Situation
In 1946 the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) became a community owned electric utility company, which provides public power to the Sacramento region, serving 592,000 customers. SMUD always keeps their customers in mind by creating options such as increasing energy efficiency, reducing global warming, protecting the environment and lowering the cost to serve its region. SMUD contacted a large independent precast concrete company, in the interest of adding slip resistance and airflow throughout the vaults.
The Solution:
SlipNOT® provided SMUD with galvanized grating in sizes 1” x 3/16” x 46-1/4” x 51-1/2” and 1” x 3/16” x 36-1/4” x 48-1/2”. The steel was galvanized to prevent corrosion from outdoor conditions. The slip resistant grating replaced customer owned vault openings, meeting all specifications. Utility vaults are used to house one or more district owned transformers as well as associated service equipment. The grating allowed ventilation throughout the vaults, keeping the transformers and electrical equipment from overheating.
The Impact:
SlipNOT® provided the most effective way for SMUD’s customers, employees and community to keep safe. SlipNOT®’s galvanized steel grating now offers proper airflow and ensures the benefits of safe, reliable electricity within these confined vaults.
