JetBlue made John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) their home in 2000 and is now the largest carrier operating at the airport. JetBlue’s Terminal 5 made its grand opening on October 22, 2008 and was one of the first terminals in North America to be completely designed and constructed since September 11, 2001. JetBlue’s Gensler and Associates-designed Terminal 5 surrounds Eero Saarinen’s iconic TWA terminal. The design of the JetBlue terminal complements Saarinen’s emulation of aviation history as well as his classic modernist style. Inside Terminal 5, customers encounter a comfortable and efficient travel experience, including a central Marketplace with grandstands, shopping, dining, free Wi-Fi, comfortable seating areas and a children’s play area.

SLIPNOT Metal Safety Flooring was contacted by Gensler and Associates to provide a non-slip stainless steel plate for JetBlue Terminal 5’s steps of the Marketplace grandstands. Gensler and Associates serve as a worldwide network of architects, designers, planners and consultants. Their work reflects the belief that design is one of the most powerful tools in helping their clients achieve success.

SLIPNOT has provided slip resistant products including tooling platforms, stair treads, and tarmac plates among others, throughout the aerospace industry for years. Companies such as The Boeing Company, Goodrich Corporation, DynCorp International and Lockheed Martin, have used SLIPNOT slip resistant products for numerous projects. Due to the history of success in the aerospace industry and airline industry, Gensler and Associates knew SLIPNOT was a reputable company which fit the requirements of this project.

SLIPNOT provided 1/8” x 14” x 48” Grade 1 stainless steel stair treads for their installation. The mill finished stainless steel on stainless was the elite choice for the project because it is corrosion resistant, easily cleaned and aesthetically appealing. The stainless steel steps provide a slip resistant and safe environment, which is ideal for the high volume traffic area.

Their new SLIPNOT stainless steel stair treads not only brought slip resistance to the Terminal 5 Marketplace grandstands, but also integrated well into the overall design of the terminal.
