The Situation:

SlipNOT® was specified for the Croton Water Treatment Plant in New York City.  The Croton Water System is the oldest of the city’s three systems that provide drinking water to the city and upstate communities.  The New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) and the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) have mandated the filtration and disinfection of the Croton water supply to comply with standards.  Reoccurring problems with water quality have resulted in the Croton System being removed from service on numerous occasions.  As part of a complete renovation to the water treatment system and surrounding facilities; the gatehouses had to be remodeled to return amenities to optimal functionality.  The Croton Water Treatment Plant is the largest single construction contract in New York's history.  Due to a large amount of water and a slippery environment, non-slip stair coverings were essential to the remodel.  Another main concern was hygiene.

The Solution:

SlipNOT® was the most hygienic choice for Gatehouse #1, due to the fact SlipNOT® is a non-gritted surface that will not contaminate or affect the water supply.  SlipNOT®’s coefficient of friction is greater than or equal to 0.85 assured unparalleled traction.  SlipNOT® stainless steel was chosen due to the non-corrosive, chemical resistant properties.  SlipNOT® ¼” x 4” x 32”stainless steel stair coverings with a 1 ¼” nosing were provided for the water treatment plant.  The stair coverings were supplied with three 5/16” countersunk holes per the drawing provided, in order to make installation simple and flawless.

The Impact:

SlipNOT® stair coverings instantly created a sanitary, completely slip resistant walking surface.  Although the slip resistant stair coverings were a small portion of the overall renovation, the pristine stair coverings continually keep employees safe in wet conditions.  SlipNOT® stair coverings are perfect for new construction or renovations where little downtime is required.  SlipNOT® provided a quick turnaround to meet the time requirements of this large project.
