Voortman Cookies eliminates slips and falls in food processing facility stairs

Non Slip Stainless Steel Work Platform
  • The Situation:

Voortman Cookies has been baking up cookies and bread since 1951 when the two Voortman brothers moved to Canada from the Netherlands. It was also one of the first companies in the United States and Canada to ban the use of trans fats in their products.

Food production facilities like Voortman Cookies become slippery with use of butter, oil, and flour and the cleaning products needed to maintain a safe food environment.

Voortman Cookies had a slippery portable staircase used by workers to clean-up in and around a production line. It also had some fixed landings used to access its cookie wire cutting machine that were slip and fall hazards.

  • The Solution:

Voortman Cookies supplied us with specific drawings for the job. We used those specifications to manufacture two (2) 1/8” thick various sized 304 stainless steel slates with kick plates and nosings and one (1) 1/8” thick 304 stainless steel channel.
The Voortman team built portable staircases and installed the SLIPNOT plates.

  • The Impact:

No safety incidents were reported since the installation and the Voortman Cookies team has continued to order additional treads for their facilities.

Other food processors such as Tyson, General Mills and Frito Lay have used SLIPNOT products for stair treads and platforms.
