Step tread covers constructed of floor plate are ideal for covering bare grating stairs. If you would like to incorporate a slip resistant surface without replacing stairs and need a solid surface step tread covers are the perfect choice. We strongly recommend fabricating step covers prior to applying the SLIPNOT non slip surface. If you choose to fabricate after the coating is applied a hardened tool bit will be required for drilling holes.
How to install step tread covers:
- If you are drilling the holes yourself:
- Start with the top stair and work your way down. Lay step tread cover in position on top of the grating.
- Measure to determine the location of drill holes from the sides and the back edge of the stair tread cover. The holes should be 1” or more away from the edge of the cover and be placed in the center between bars of grating.
- Mark drill holes on the bottom side of the stair cover based off of your measurements and use hardened tool bit to drill holes in place.
- Insert bolts into step cover.
- From underneath place the saddle clip, lock washer and the lock nut on the bolts.
- Use socket wrench to hold the locknut under the step.
- Insert the driver in the bolt head, tighten the bolt and ensure the saddle clip remains positioned in the correct position on grating bars.
- Fasten saddle clip and make sure step cover is installed properly.
- If you purchased a fabricated stair tread cover:
- Lay cover over grating, because bearing bars are random, it is recommended to have SLIPNOT provide two holes so that if one does not line up the other can be used.
- Insert bolts into step cover.
- From underneath place the saddle clip, lock washer and the lock nut on the bolts.
- Use socket wrench to hold the locknut under the step.
- Insert the driver in the bolt head, tighten the bolt and ensure the saddle clip remains positioned in the correct position on grating bars.
- Fasten saddle clip and make sure step cover is installed properly.
