The Situation:

A leading retail flooring company in the Washington area offers natural countertops and floor coverings such as; carpet, hardwood, stone, laminate and vinyl to Northwest homeowners, contractors and business owners.  Due to their many retail locations, they are able to handle contracts on some of the Northwest’s largest construction projects, as well as commercial activities that each retail location provides.  The retail flooring company was contacted by the Washington State Convention Center to supply their stairway with slip resistant treads, which then contacted SlipNOT® Metal Safety Flooring for a non-slip solution.

The Solution:

SlipNOT® was able to provide (40) 1/4” x 2-1/4” x 78” 5052 H32 Grade 2 aluminum treads that were butted up against carpeted stairs.  The aluminum treads included a patented SlipNOT® non-slip coating, stainless steel surface, mill finish and were formed with a 1-1/4” nosing and (7) 5/16” countersunk holes; for anchoring into the floor.  Due to high traffic, the steps became dangerous from the water being tracked in and out, which is why SlipNOT® incorporated a stainless steel surface.  This brought chemical and corrosion resistance to the stairway.

The Impact:

Installing the aluminum treads to the Washington State Convention Center was an optimal decision due to the slip resistant surface and aesthetic appeal.  It gave pedestrians and employees a sure-footed walking surface.

The Situation:

ElDorado National is the largest volume producer of commercial buses in North America.  ElDorado is a subsidiary of Thor Industries, the world’s largest manufacturer of recreation vehicles and a leader in the commercial bus industry. Thor’s reputation is built on outstanding performance and has annual sales of over $2 billion.  Thor industry operates fourteen subsidiaries, as well as ElDorado National.

ElDorado National has two North American facilities located in Riverside, California and Salina, Kansas.  The facility in Riverside, CA specializes in manufacturing commercial buses while the facility in Salina, KS focuses on mobility vans and cutaway buses.

ElDorado National manufactures five commercial bus lines including the Axess, Escort RE-A, E-Z Rider II, Passport-HD, Transmark RE and XHF.  ElDorado is an innovative leader in the transportation industry that also offers clients a line of alternative fuel commercial buses that are environmentally friendly.  The ElDorado National manufacturing facility in California is ISO certified by the International Standards Organization and ADA compliant, providing clients with the highest level of quality product available.

ElDorado National supplies commercial buses to the City of Riverside in California.  The City of Riverside is located in southern California and is home to nearly 400,000 residents.  Eldorado National was seeking a solution to slippery steps on their commercial buses and wanted a product that would provide the highest level of slip resistance for passengers while being able to withstand installation in a high volume foot traffic area with minimal maintenance.  ElDorado was also seeking a solution that would be light weight so it would not add any additional weight to their buses.  Another necessary requirement was a product that could be painted.  It was extremely important for ElDorado’s final product to be painted safety yellow so there was a high level of visibility for passengers entering and exiting buses to ensure passengers would be able to safely utilize the buses.

The Solution:

ElDorado National contacted SlipNOT® Metal Safety Flooring for a solution to slippery steps on the entrance and exits of their commercial buses.  SlipNOT® recommended and provided ElDorado with aluminum stair treads painted safety yellow and gray.  Aluminum was the optimal choice for ElDorado’s slippery stairs because it provided the safety needed for the passengers.  Aluminum is also a light weight metal that will not add a large amount of additional weight to the commercial buses.  The aluminum stair treads are also corrosion resistant and will be a long lasting solution with minimal maintenance which was ideal for the high foot traffic entrance and exits of the commercial buses.  To further provide safety for passengers, SlipNOT® painted the ends of the stair treads safety yellow for high visibility when entering and exiting the busses.  By painting the stair treads safety yellow, passengers will be aware of the steps when they are entering and will help ElDorado National continue to provide clients and passengers with high quality and safe buses.

The Impact:

SlipNOT® exceeded the expectations of ElDorado National and the City of Riverside, CA by providing a slip resistant solution to slippery stairs on their commercial buses that is light weight, minimal maintenance and corrosion resistant against high volume foot traffic. T he painted safety yellow stair treads not only provide slip resistance to passengers but also ensure passengers notice and are aware of the stairs on the buses.  SlipNOT® provided ElDorado National with a long lasting slip resistant solution for their slippery stairs that helps continue to provide their customers and passengers with the highest level of quality and safe product available.

The Situation:

Ameritech is a telecommunications company located in Arizona. Ameritech was created as a holding company for Illinois Bell, Indiana Bell, Michigan Bell, Ohio Bell and Wisconsin Bell.  It was later acquired by SBS and is currently a part of AT&T.  Ameritech located in Arizona was seeking a slip resistant solution to slippery stairs in their office.  Ameritech wanted a contemporary and aesthetically pleasing product that would complete the look of the office while providing slip resistance safety to workers.

The Solution:

Ameritech contacted SlipNOT® Metal Safety Flooring for a solution to their slippery stairs.  SlipNOT® provided stainless steel nosing as the optimal solution for the project.  Stainless steel nosing was the ideal choice because it provides slip resistance to slippery stairs to protect workers while also giving the office building the aesthetically pleasing look Ameritech was seeking that helped complete the contemporary architecture.  SlipNOT® nosing is also a cost efficient solution versus replacing the entire stair.

The Impact:

SlipNOT® slip resistant stainless steel nosing provided Ameritech with the slip resistant safety and architectural pleasing look they wanted to achieve.  SlipNOT® steel nosing will provide Ameritech and its employees with years of slip resistant safety to keep workers on their feet.

The Situation:

A general contractor was chosen by the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) to provide grating for ASLA’s green roof at their headquarters in Washington D.C. The green roof is a part of the ASLA’s commitment to promote environmentally friendly designs to make green roofs a more widely accepted option for architects and contractors.  The 3,000 sq. ft. green roof will grow a variety of plants and also have a viewing area for the public.  The ASLA was looking for a walking surface that would allow plants to grow up and through the floor surface to maximize the roof space, allow people to walk on the space without damaging the plants and for a product that would remain slip resistant against transpiration from the growing plants.  The general contractor contacted Ohio Gratings for a flooring solution.

The Solution:

SlipNOT®slip resistant aluminum grating was chosen as the optimal grating for the project.  Slip resistant aluminum was the ideal substrate because it is a light weight material that reduced the overall weight of the grating on the roof while still being extremely durable.  The aluminum coating also remains slip resistant against transpiration from plants and other outdoor elements providing a safe walking area for pedestrians.  SlipNOT® slip resistant aluminum grating is corrosion resistant and will be able to withstand installation in an outside environment with minimal maintenance.  Ohio Gratings worked extensively with the general contractor to provide the appropriate dimensions for the project.

The Impact:

SlipNOT® aluminum grating has provided the American Society of Landscape Architects with an aesthetically pleasing slip resistant walking surface for the green roof.  The aluminum grating has proven to be the ideal solution to help the ASLA’s showcase their green roof.

The Situation:

FireKeepers Casino, a recently constructed casino located in Battle Creek, MI, contacted a local fabricator for their reputation for quality and dedication to excellence.  The fabricator specializes in custom manufacturing and installing staircases for industries ranging from residential to health care, educational facilities to corporations and museums to casinos, among many others.  FireKeepers Casino wanted to ensure that their patrons could safely maneuver throughout the casino without risk of falling down their stairwells.

The Solution:

The fabricator knew that safety and aesthetics were vital components for the staircase being fabricated for FireKeepers Casino.  They contacted a sales representative from SlipNOT® Metal Safety Flooring and worked directly with them to determine what would be the best solution for the requirements of the staircases at the East entrances and the glass monumental stairway.

SlipNOT® applied their unprecedented stainless steel slip resistant Grade 2 coating to custom fabricated stair nosings supplied by the fabricator. They also supplied customized templates to SlipNOT® which were adhered to the nosings for the stainless steel stairs before the slip resistant SlipNOT® coating was applied.  Once the coating process was complete, the template was peeled off leaving the customized pattern required.  The pattern chosen for this application, which appropriately reemphasized their theme, were flames.

After much consideration and debate, the fabricator opted for a solid slip resistant coating, covering the entire walking surface.  Although the SlipNOT® slip resistant coating created an aesthetically pleasing appearance, complete safety was more critical.

The Impact:

Choosing safety over appearance has proven to be the right choice.  The customized nosings for the stainless steel stairs are not only visually aesthetically pleasing, but also provide a safe, durable and reliable solution for their stainless steel stair application.
