Steel Grating Treads Used for Crossover Platform at Unilever

    PROJECT OVERVIEW
Steel stair treads used for a crossover at Unilever

    SOLUTION
Steel surface applied to 19W4 steel grating treads

    WEBSITE

    The Situation:

Unilever is a British-Dutch worldwide company that has created over 400 brands, including some of the worlds best known product lines, including Good Humor, Dove and hundreds of others.  Founded on January 1st, 1930, Unilever is a dual-listed company (two corporations acting as a single business) with Unilever N.V. based in the Netherlands and Unilever PLC based in the United Kingdom.  An outside fabricator, located in Illinois, worked with Unilever to build a crossover platform for one of their facilities.  The fabricator brought in SlipNOT® to provide slip resistant stair treads to be used as part of  the crossover staircase, to increase traction in a potentially slick environment.

    The Solution:

The fabricator ordered various pieces of 19W4 steel grating in sizes 1-1/4” x 3/16” x 9-3/4” x 36”, 1” x 3/16” x 23-15/16” x 35-13/16 and 1” x 3/16” x 15-5/8” x 35-13/16”.  The 1-1/4” pieces were used for the stair treads and the 1” pieces were used as landings for the crossover.  Since the pieces were cut to size, the installation of the grating was easy to complete in the field.  The pieces were ordered in mill finish and painted later on in the field to fit the job specifications.  Steel grating needs to be painted or galvanized to protect from rust and corrosion.

SlipNOT® steel grating can be fabricated to fit specifications or can be ordered in stock sizes.  The grating can also be ordered in light duty or heavy duty styles to fit the individual application.  Steel grating coated with SlipNOT® has a file hard surface between 55-63 on the Rockwell “C” scale and a bond strength of at least 4,000 psi.

    Impact:

SlipNOT® cut to size steel grating instantly created a safe walking surface on a crossover staircase at Unilever.   SlipNOT® products retain their traction even while coated in slick lubricants like oils and water that can be found in manufacturing plants.  Workers at Unilever can count on SlipNOT® products to keep them on their feet while working in any situation.

    PROJECT OVERVIEW
Galvanized steel grating replaced existing grating

    SOLUTION
    Various sized galvanized grating treads

    WEBSITE

    The Situation:

Since 1983, Therm-Omega-Tech, Inc. has designed and manufactured reliable self actuated valves for temperature control.  Each product is made and distributed from their 25,000 foot manufacturing facility near Philadelphia. When the existing grating on rear outdoor safety exits became rusted through, an engineer contacted SlipNOT® to provide a safe and cost effective way to replace them.

    The Solution:

    SlipNOT® provided Therm-Omega-Tech, Inc. with galvanized steel Grip Grate® in sizes 1-1/4” x 3/16” x 10-15/16” x 45”, 1-1/4” x 3/16” x 23-15/16” x 48”, and 1-1/4” x 3/16” x 29-7/8” x 48” steel grating for their installation.  Non-slip steel Grip Grate® was chosen for its file hard surface (55 – 63 on the Rockwell scale) and bond strength (at least 4,000 psi).  Therm-Omega-Tech Inc. chose to have SlipNOT® galvanize the steel to protect it from corrosion.

    The Impact:

By installing SlipNOT® galvanized steel Grip Grate®, Therm-Omega-Tech, Inc. provided a safe and durable solution for their outdoor safety exits.  The grating allows for rain and snow to pass through, while still remaining slip resistant.  Having this long lasting grating installed has given Therm-Omega-Tech, Inc. the safety and peace of mind they were looking for.

    Food and Beverage

    PROJECT OVERVIEW
Stainless steel coating applied to bare metal stainless steel and drain covers

    SOLUTION
Stainless steel grating and stainless steel drain covers

    WEBSITE

    The Situation:

Kent Quality Foods, Inc., manufacturer of franks and sausages, had a existing platform with grating stair treads that were not providing a safe working surface for employees as they accessed machinery and equipment on a daily basis.  The oils, fats and greases from the franks and sausages constantly create a slick and dangerous walking surface for employees as they try to perform their daily duties and job responsibilities.  Kent Quality Foods, Inc. also needed to retrofit their existing drain covers with a durable slip resistant solution.

    The Solution:

Kent Quality Foods, Inc. contacted SlipNOT® Metal Safety Flooring in regards to their retrofitting needs within their facility.  The existing slippery grating platforms, drain covers and grating treads were in good condition and did not need to be replaced.   The material was sent to SlipNOT®to have the stainless steel slip resistant coating applied to the walking surfaces of each piece of flooring.  The SlipNOT®stainless steel coating has been approved by NSF International for use in food processing facilities because of its ability to maintain a bacteria and contaminant free surface while maintaining slip resistance in all directions.

SlipNOT®Metal Safety Flooring strives to provide the best lead time possible.  The customer supplied stainless steel grating platform, grating treads and drain covers were coated with the non-slip Grade 2 stainless steel surface and shipped back to Kent Quality Foods, Inc. the next day.

    The Impact:

SlipNOT®knows that down time is critical in any company, which is why retrofitting existing surfaces with the non slip product is an effective way to provide instant safety.  The SlipNOT®slip resistant stainless steel surface not only provides durability and safety, but also allows for employees to be more efficient in their daily responsibilities and production.

The SlipNOT®coated platform, grating treads and drain covers are ensuring 100% shoe to surface contact, consistently allowing for a safe and sanitary working surface.

Aluminum Slip Resistant Stair Tread Covers Used at Pirtle Springs Water Treatment Plant Transformed Grating Stairs into Safety Stairs

    LOCATION
    Radcliff, KY

    INDUSTRY
    Water and Wastewater

    PROJECT OVERVIEW
Aluminum solid plate stair treads replace grating stair treads

    SOLUTION
Aluminum fabricated treads with nosings and risers

    The Situation:

Pirtle Springs Water Treatment Plant contacted their fabricator to transform the slippery grating stair treads that lead to a blower room into safety stairs.  The aluminum safety stairs needed to also act as a contaminant barrier for the equipment that sits below the stairway.

    The Solution:

Pirtle Springs Water Treatment Plant originally purchased aluminum grating treads to allow air and light to pass through the stairway.  Shortly after installation, the aluminum grating treads were not working as planned.  The openness of the treads allowed for pollutants to fall through contaminating the equipment that sat beneath the stairs and the aluminum grating treads were also slippery.  After contemplating a retrofit solution that would eliminate the pollutants and slick walking surface, it was determined that aluminum plate safety stairs would be ordered from SlipNOT® Metal Safety Flooring.

The fabricator worked with a sales representative from SlipNOT® to order the safety stairs.  SlipNOT® provides custom fabricated stair treads that ensure a sure fit onto existing stair treads and because of this the fabricator was easily able to provide durable safety stairs for the Pirtle Springs Water Treatment Plant.

Twenty (20) customized solid plate aluminum safety stairs were ordered to the exact dimensions and then shipped directly to the Pirtle Springs Water Treatment plant within two weeks of the order.  SlipNOT® supplied the safety stairs with risers and nosings as well so that the safety stairways would be completely enclosed not allowing pollutants or contaminants to fall through.

    The Impact:

Not only did the safety stairs instantly eliminate the slippery environment, they also served as a solution for the contaminants that fell through the stairs.  The SlipNOT® aluminum safety stairs were installed with ease and created a safe and visually appealing stair case.
