The Situation

Costco Wholesale is an international chain membership warehouse carrying brand name products at lower prices. Costco Wholesale Packaging produces innovative packing for products appearing in Costco stores worldwide from food to printer cartridges.  Costco was in need of a permanent slip resistant solution for steps that originally had a taped-on product and was failing to provide a safe non-slip surface for employees.

The Solution:

Costco contacted SlipNOT® Metal Safety Flooring for a permanent solution.  After speaking with a sales representative Costco purchased 50 pieces 2” x 2” x 3/16” x 30” Grade 2 aluminum on aluminum angle nosings to retrofit over steel diamond plate.  SlipNOT® nosings can be welded directly to current treads and stringers or bolted in place.  Costco purchased the nosings without pre-drilled holes.  Countersunk holes were fabricated in the field.  Costco cleaned off the old taped-on product from the steel diamond plate and installed the SlipNOT® angles nosings.

The Impact:

SlipNOT® slip resistant angle nosings installed on the diamond plate surface instantly reduced the exposure of slip and fall injuries and/or fatalities in the workplace.  After the product was installed Costco Wholesale Packaging purchased an additional 50 pieces of angle nosing for more steps in their facility. 

The Situation:

West 8 Urban Designers & Landscape Architecture and Toit Allsopp Hillier (DTAH) took the lead on designing the Spadina WaveDeck on the waterfront in Toronto, Canada.  The WaveDeck was designed with playful curves and geometry to create unique seating and access to the waterfront.  The award winning idea behind the wave structure was also to give visitors different views of the water, inspired by the forever changing contours of the Canadian shoreline.  Due to the fact the WaveDeck is right on the waterfront, safety was a major concern for all parties involved.  In order to keep pedestrians safe on this public walkway, a slip resistant surface was required.

The Solution:

SlipNOT® recommended Grade 2 stainless steel flat bar for its aesthetically pleasing appeal, non-slip properties and corrosion resistance.  The stainless steel flat bar was applied as nosing on the edges of the wooden waves used to create walkways. The stainless steel flat bar will remain slip resistant against the extreme outside weather environments and heavy use from pedestrians and cyclists.

The Impact:

The Spadina WaveDeck opened in September 2008, receiving numerous awards for design.  SlipNOT® slip resistant stainless steel nosing incorporates safety to this public access way for pedestrians and visitors alike.  SlipNOT® stainless steel also compliments the aesthetic appearance of the WaveDeck.  Built with safety in mind, the Spadina WaveDeck provides functionality and art.

The Situation:

McMenamins Pubs and Breweries owns and operates more than 50 establishments in Oregon and the state of Washington and is the sixth largest producer of microbrewed beer in the Pacific Northwest.  The Facility Coordinator of McMenamins Pubs & Breweries in Centralia, WA contacted SlipNOT® to come up with a solution to an existing slippery rubber staircase, the rubber was splitting and bubbling.  The stairway leads from the restaurant down to the brewery where there is often steam, spills and water prevalent.

The Solution:

Instead of having to incur the cost of replacing all of the treads, which the client assumed was the only solution, SlipNOT® proposed stair nosing which is a more cost efficient solution with minimal down time.  SlipNOT® provided McMenamins Pubs & Breweries with 2” x 2” x 1/8” x 38-1/2” 6061-T6 slip resistant aluminum angles with three 5/16” countersunk holes for installation.  Countersunk holes were used for an easy bolt down installation, as well as a flush even walking surface.  The aluminum material was selected due to its lightweight and corrosion resistant properties.  Also, 1/8” plate is often used for angles to create a smooth transition and prevent a trip hazard.

The Impact:

SlipNOT® provided the most cost-efficient alternative to replacing the slippery rubber stairs in the McMenamins Pubs & Breweries facility.  The SlipNOT® aluminum nosing was easily retrofitted over the rubber stairs and provides an extremely slip resistant surface to the area of the stairs that becomes worn due to heavy traffic.  After the SlipNOT® aluminum angle was installed, the Facility Coordinator stated “I received your product exactly to spec, and I have been very pleased with the functionality and durability of your product.”

The Situation:

Ameritech is a telecommunications company located in Arizona. Ameritech was created as a holding company for Illinois Bell, Indiana Bell, Michigan Bell, Ohio Bell and Wisconsin Bell.  It was later acquired by SBS and is currently a part of AT&T.  Ameritech located in Arizona was seeking a slip resistant solution to slippery stairs in their office.  Ameritech wanted a contemporary and aesthetically pleasing product that would complete the look of the office while providing slip resistance safety to workers.

The Solution:

Ameritech contacted SlipNOT® Metal Safety Flooring for a solution to their slippery stairs.  SlipNOT® provided stainless steel nosing as the optimal solution for the project.  Stainless steel nosing was the ideal choice because it provides slip resistance to slippery stairs to protect workers while also giving the office building the aesthetically pleasing look Ameritech was seeking that helped complete the contemporary architecture.  SlipNOT® nosing is also a cost efficient solution versus replacing the entire stair.

The Impact:

SlipNOT® slip resistant stainless steel nosing provided Ameritech with the slip resistant safety and architectural pleasing look they wanted to achieve.  SlipNOT® steel nosing will provide Ameritech and its employees with years of slip resistant safety to keep workers on their feet.

The Situation:

FireKeepers Casino, a recently constructed casino located in Battle Creek, MI, contacted a local fabricator for their reputation for quality and dedication to excellence.  The fabricator specializes in custom manufacturing and installing staircases for industries ranging from residential to health care, educational facilities to corporations and museums to casinos, among many others.  FireKeepers Casino wanted to ensure that their patrons could safely maneuver throughout the casino without risk of falling down their stairwells.

The Solution:

The fabricator knew that safety and aesthetics were vital components for the staircase being fabricated for FireKeepers Casino.  They contacted a sales representative from SlipNOT® Metal Safety Flooring and worked directly with them to determine what would be the best solution for the requirements of the staircases at the East entrances and the glass monumental stairway.

SlipNOT® applied their unprecedented stainless steel slip resistant Grade 2 coating to custom fabricated stair nosings supplied by the fabricator. They also supplied customized templates to SlipNOT® which were adhered to the nosings for the stainless steel stairs before the slip resistant SlipNOT® coating was applied.  Once the coating process was complete, the template was peeled off leaving the customized pattern required.  The pattern chosen for this application, which appropriately reemphasized their theme, were flames.

After much consideration and debate, the fabricator opted for a solid slip resistant coating, covering the entire walking surface.  Although the SlipNOT® slip resistant coating created an aesthetically pleasing appearance, complete safety was more critical.

The Impact:

Choosing safety over appearance has proven to be the right choice.  The customized nosings for the stainless steel stairs are not only visually aesthetically pleasing, but also provide a safe, durable and reliable solution for their stainless steel stair application.
