Situation:
Lockheed Martin is a global security and information technology company that is worldwide, employing about 132,000 people. Lockheed Martin is a multifaceted company, engaged in design, development, manufacturing, products, services and advanced technology systems. The operating units are organized into broad business areas such as aeronautics, electronic systems, information systems and global solutions and space systems. One of Lockheed Martin’s missions is to keep a safe workplace. Employees noticed that their grating became slick and their small tools would fall through the grating. To solve this issue, Lockheed Martin contacted a leading broad line supplier of facilities maintenance products, for a slip resistant solid plate.
Solution:
The supplier of maintenance products contacted SlipNOT®, who was specified on the job, for a retrofitting solution. SlipNOT® recommended Grade 2 (Medium) steel plates for installation. After SlipNOT® reviewed the specifications they provided 1/8” x 5’ x 10’ and 1/8” x 5’ x 8’ steel plates, totaling twenty-five (25). A coat of black paint was applied to the slip resistant side of the plates providing aesthetic appeal and corrosion resistance. The steel plates were cost effective and saved Lockheed Martin from purchasing new tools. This was an easy way to implement safety, while ensuring an accurate fit.
Impact:
The long term, durable steel plates were installed over Lockheed Martin’s grating, solving the issue of slip resistance and lost tools and materials. The coated SlipNOT® steel plates will easily withstand Lockheed Martin’s vigorous daily routines caused by heavy traffic and equipment.
