Treetop Steel Walkway

September 6, 2009

The Xstrata Treetop Walkway in the Royal Botanic Gardens of Kew, London is an above ground steel walkway.  This beautiful steel walkway gives a breath taking view and a place to view natural habitats of animals.

Steel plates were utilized for this walkway and installed in a 12th century mathematical sequence of plant structures.  The plates were left unprotected in order to capture the true color of surrounding nature.  The rust and weathered steel is thought to match its surrounding, unlike any paint color could.

SlipNOTВ®® would be ideal for an elevated steel walkway such as the Xstrata.  Incorporating slip resistance into this project could have been very beneficial, the walkway was expected to have a million visitors within its first year.  SlipNOTВ®® steel plate would provide visitors with traction and keep pedestrians safe.
