Non-Slip Aluminum Stair Treads Installed at Colter Hall

Aluminum stair treads
  • The Situation

The history of Northwest College began in 1956 with just one building for all students and administration to use. Today, the College has expanded to 15 academic facilities, 5 resident halls, numerous apartment buildings, and a student center. They offer many academic programs which include transfer degrees, technical degrees, and skills certificates. They have also come a long way from the days of one ping-pong table, as the institution is now home to 7 varsity teams, some of which include men and women’s basketball and soccer.

Students, faculty, and visitors main mode of transportation on campus is by foot. Northwest College was looking for a slip-resistant solution for the entrance steps to Colter Hall, which is one of the dorms closest to the academic buildings.

  • The Solution

Exterior steps need protection against outdoor elements, such as weather or frequent foot traffic that cause erosion. Due to its anti-rust, lightweight, and aesthetic properties, the facilities director at NWC and one of the sales representatives at SLIPNOT decided aluminum would be the best alloy for the project. The establishment was provided with (12) 3/16” x various sizes x 60” Aluminum 3003 grade 2 stair treads. SLIPNOT provided countersunk holes for the treads which were easily retrofitted over the existing concrete steps by bolting.

  • The Impact

Northwest College is pleased with the product they received. After installation of the aluminum stair tread covers, the facilities director contacted SLIPNOT and purchased additional treads for other projects to increase safety on campus.
