With operations dating back to the 1850’s, Rotella founder, Domenico Rotella, began baking with just a single wood-fired oven in Calabria, Italy. Domenico passed on his craft to his son, Alessandro, who brought the bakery to the land of opportunity after immigrating to America with his wife, Maria. Rotella’s Italian Bakery currently offers several varieties of products such as hot dog and hamburger buns, ciabatta loaves, dinner and banquet rolls, and specialty breads. Rotella’s also offers a gluten-free bread option.

To ensure the safety of their employees, Rotella contacted a project manager to find a slip resistant solution for their fixed ladders within the bakery.

The project manager contacted SLIPNOT to provide non-slip ladder rungs to be installed on caged maintenance ladders accessing the rooftop. After reviewing project details and specifications, SLIPNOT supplied (58) 1” x 23-5/8” and (19) ¾” x 17 ½” Grade 2 safety yellow steel ladder rungs. Applying a safety yellow paint increases visibility and awareness for employees. The newly installed rungs now prevent potential slip and fall accidents, resulting in a safer work environment.

Come August of 2016, the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) is establishing strict requirements for walking/working surfaces and fall protection systems.

Below are two OSHA requirements for fixed and portable ladders.

• 1053(a)(6)(i) – The rungs and steps of fixed metal ladders manufactured after March 15, 1991, shall be corrugated, knurled, dimpled, coated with skid-resistant material, or otherwise treated to minimize slipping.
• 26(a)(6)(ii) – Rungs and steps of portable metal ladders shall be corrugated, knurled, dimpled, coated with skid-resistant material, or otherwise treated to minimize the possibility of slipping.
